Citroën lets fans customise cars using Facebook

Digital marketing industry case study library

Car maker Citroën invited its Facebook fans across the world to vote for a selection of consumer-created designs to customise its new Citroën DS3. In October last year, Citroen tasked eYeka's creative community to “create stylish designs inspired by French Luxury” to customise its Citroën DS3 model. In just two weeks, Citroën received more than 180 high-quality designs from all over the world, and awarded €10,000 between the top three winning entries from Germany, Hong Kong, and France respectively.

The designs, inspired by a modern twist on "French luxury" were created by consumers from all over the world on leading co-creation platform eYeka.

Now, the brand has shortlisted 12 designs and put them up for discussion on its Facebook page. The design most voted for will possibly move into production for Citroen's new DS3 model – to be released worldwide later this year.

“The first design, OUI, was chosen because of its simplicity, its visual impact and the use of a very famous French word – a synonym of openness and joy of life,” Citroën said of the winning design.

Since then, Citroën has shortlisted 12 designs and put them up for discussion on its global Facebook page in the album “Your Citroën DS3 dreams?”. The French car manufacturer is now asking its Facebook community to “like” its favourite designs. The most popular could be put into production on the roof, wing mirrors, dashboard, and wheel rims of the next Citroën DS3 – to be sold worldwide.

Francois Petavy, CEO of eYeka, said of the contest: “The quality of the designs, particularly those shortlisted by Citroen, demonstrates the understanding and insight that consumers have of such an iconic brand. That Citroën would consider implementing one of these designs is a huge testament to the pool of creative talent that lies out there, waiting to be tapped!”
